Outreach

Bereavement Ministry: The Bereavement Ministry assists the family of the deceased in several areas: planning a meaningful & appropriate funeral liturgy, planning & preparing for a funeral lunch, All Soul’s Day liturgy (early November) and special correspondence throughout the year. Volunteers are needed to serve in the various facets of this important parish ministry. Contact: Sally Hudson (825-5974) or Mary Lou Hartman (741-8742).

Companions to the Homebound: This ministry the ‘Eucharistic Ministry to the Homebound’ and seeks to provide extended spiritual and communal support to those individuals, who, as a result of personal illness, personal disability, or age considerations, are unable to participate community activities. Volunteers provide support by offering personal and telephone visits to homebound members; praying for and with such members; and, helping them remain connected to the life of our parish in various ways. Contact: Mary Juniet-Elmlinger (671-1238).

Fair Trade: Through the sale of coffee, tea, chocolate and nuts, Corpus Christi Parish is helping people around the world. First, all profits are designated for the Jamaican Outreach Missions effort. Second, every time any Fair Trade product is purchased, it is with the knowledge that the farmer, grower or laborer is receiving fair compensation for his/her work. By cutting out the middleman and selling directly to the Fair Trade Organization, workers throughout the world receive fair wages as well as medical benefits for themselves and their families. Fair Trade products are sold the first weekend of every month after each Mass and are available throughout the month by calling the parish office. Contact: Deacon Larry Day (825-0618).

Food Pantry: The Food Pantry has many facets: it provides groceries; distributes turkey dinners at Thanksgiving; provides Christmas gifts and  dinners. Volunteers regularly assist those in need and occasionally pick-up food donated by local schools, other donations of health a& beauty aids, etc. The Food Pantry depends on donations of food and cash to carry on this important parish ministry. Contact: Mary Smith (825-0618).

Jamaica: Corpus Christi Parish enjoys a covenant with a Jamaican community through the religious community of priests and lay men dedicated to apostolic works in mission territories, participating in missionary activity through the spread of the Gospel and service of the Church. Preaching the Word, education, serving the poor, and caring for abandoned children are some of the ways through which we carry out the missionary mandate of the Church. The Society is presently responsible for Our Lady of Hope, a children’s home housing 36 children, St. Vincent Strambi High School whose enrollment is 225 students, and St. Vincent Strambi Parish (65 – 85 regular attendees). While our primary relationship in Jamaica is with The Mission Society of Mandeville and their ministries, we continue our relationship with St. John Bosco Boy’s Home, also in Mandeville. Contact: Deacon John or Sylvia Corson (825-0618).

Mission Outreach: In response to God’s call to love our neighbor, we are a ministry that empowers our parish community to reach out to the poorest of the poor, shares knowledge about the need, provides for their physical needs and moves toward social justice through service. New members are always welcome. Contact: Sylvia Corson (851-1188) or Paul Seibert (742-1556).

Tender Mercies: This ministry prepares and serves dinner to residents of Tender Mercies in downtown Cincinnati on the 1st Sunday and 2nd Tuesday of each month. Volunteers prepare the meals and serve them. Donations are welcome, as well as volunteer cooks and servers. Contact Miriam Borchelt (825-3745) for Tuesdays and John Faig (741-4139) for Sundays.

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul: In collaboration with St. John Neumann Parish, volunteers assist those who have needs other than food.  Telephone — 513-402-2868.
